Being Uplifted While Being Uplifting: The Joy Of Orthotics And Prosthetics
August 1, 2016 - Will Graybeal CP/LPO
I know many people can say that they get so much more out of their career than a paycheck, and there are many professions that are enjoyable. But being in the orthotics and prosthetics profession seems unbeatable.
When a client has that “aha” moment—learning to trust their new prosthetic knee or foot and feeling confidence again—it is such a rewarding experience. Or when you see the relief in a caregiver’s eye as the client takes steps of independence after a stroke and the risk of a fall has been decreased. Or my favorite one lately was when a new trainee had an idea of how to help a patient; he saw that his mind and his hands can connect and solve an issue for a disabled and hurting person. That was his “aha” moment. These moments come daily in my career...

Finding The Right Fit With Bristol Orthotics & Prosthetics
June 1 , 2016 - Adam Fann MPO, CPOA, CPED

You might have the most expensive and high tech components, but if the socket doesn’t fit well, you won’t be as happy, comfortable, or functional as you could be. The analogy of finding the right fit extends to other areas of life as well. In my case, finding a career in orthotics and prosthetics and a home at Bristol Orthotics & Prosthetics has been the pefect fit, providing me the opportunity to do the most good while enjoying my work...

Bionics In Prosthetics. The Future Is Now.
February 1, 2016 - Will Graybeal CP/LPO
Bristol Orthotics and Prosthetics has just been certified to fit bionic hands from a company called Touch Bionics. We have always fit computerized and electric powered upper extremity limbs including hands and complete arms including shoulders; however, using bionic technology in prosthetics is a game changer.
Last fall we had a lady call about getting a partial hand prosthesis made; she was only missing four of her fingers and still had her thumb remaining. Normally there are only a few options for this, and they are primarily for cosmetic purposes and not very functional. As a result, many people get frustrated with the limb, only wear it for cosmetic reasons, and do not use the limb for daily life. This is where the iLimb™ from Touch Bionics can really make a difference...
